I can't wait to meet my new batch of rl txt writers tomorrow at ASU! I hope they are as excited as I am to begin this two week journey of creative writing! Wow...teaching writing and I don't have to give it a grade...paradise!
I have to admit that I am still a little tired. I just finished my 7th year teaching at Sunnyslope High School, and I agreed to be a chaperon for the senior trip (a turn around trip to Disneyland the night of graduation). While we had a blast at Disneyland, I didn't get the rest I should have. I was convinced the bus driver was trying to run us off the road...he was driving a little too fast for my taste (hence the lack of sleep -- I was keeping my eye on the road).
The reason I wanted to start a blog was to practice what I teach -- a writer is someone who writes...I should be writing daily, and I feel this is a great way to keep myself accountable. I may write a few paragraphs, or I may choose to write a one line writing prompt. In any case, I will document my writing this summer right here.
Writing prompt (feel free to respond by adding a comment or simply respond in your own writer's notebook):
Like I said, I just got back from Disneyland. Because we rode on a bus all night long, and I was a chaperon, I didn't get much sleep. As a result, it shouldn't be a big surprise that I was nodding off during the new (and amazing...what I saw at least) Color the Night Parade. Here I was, front row seat (sitting on a bench) and I could not keep my eyes open. Music blaring, dazzling colors, and majestic costumes could not keep this old lady awake. My heavy eyes kept closing despite my efforts. So....
Write about a time when you couldn't stay awake. What was the situation? Why were you so tired? What did you miss out on due to heavy eyelids?
