This is what I am wondering -- why does MTV continue to use the name MTV? The "M" stands for music. This morning, I did not hear a single thing about the music being awarded last night. Instead of the music taking center stage, here are some of the headlines I read/heard about over the course of the day:
Miley Cyrus left little to the imagination clothing-wise (shocker).
Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj got into a negative, verbal match (because this is professional...and appropriate).
Kanye West gave a 15-minute speech (really? CUT HIM OFF ALREADY!).
Kanye West announced he is running for President in 2020 (Again...really? Get over yourself, dude. I am so tired of these celebrities thinking they can be President. It's a serious position that deserves respect...not all this circus-like attention.).
Kim Kardashian West wore an outfit that everyone is making fun of (I don't care for her at all, but I hate it when people are just plain mean. P.S. Isn't she pregnant right now? I would never make fun of a prego...it's not cool, and if you are a woman making fun of her, shame on you.).
What's wrong with this picture???
All of these stories trumped the winner/the artists being recognized. This is terrible. MTV should be ashamed of themselves for turning MUSIC TV into a complete and utter joke. I used to love to watch the new music videos. Now, MTV is flooded with shows like Teen Mom which does glorify being a teen mom. Some may argue with me, and that is fine, but pay attention to the result of that show.
Is this what we are coming to as a society?
